Acrylic looks amazing on nails, it is solid, resistant and you can do really long nails! But when it comes to removing acrylic, a lot of people don’t know how to do it in order to not damage the natural nails.  Acrylic cannot be removed by soaking in acetone like regular or UV polish, it has to be filed completely off the nails. You have to be careful while filing the acrylic that you don’t go too hard on the natural nail otherwise you could damage it. It is not the ideal removal system, but is it the only con to acrylic nails (if you don’t mind the smell)… Here are 2 techniques to remove acrylic without damaging the nails.

Remove acrylic with manual or electric fil e

The first method is with regular, manual files and the second method is with an electric file.  Only use an electric file if you feel comfortable with it and if you’ve had someone show you how to use it. If you can use an electric file, the best way is to start with that and when the majority of the acrylic is off, you can finish with a regular file, that is softer. Don’t forget that it takes 4 to 6 months for a nail to completely grow back so it is worth taking the extra time to file manually so you don’t do too much damaging.  When in doubt, leave a very thin layer of acrylic on your nail, it will be almost invisible while your nails grow back.
