Acrylic nail application - Repair a nail

There are different techniques for applying nails: resin, gel, and acrylic. The acrylic nail application technique is one of the most common in the United States and Europe. Strangely, in Europe, acrylic is called resin! Not to be confused with the resin technique in Canada. To do acrylic nails at home, you need to get an acrylic kit, consisting of acrylic powder and monomer liquid. It is the combination of the two that will allow you to build acrylic nails. The dosage is sometimes difficult to do, and the ratio varies from one acrylic brand to another. I advise you to practice on a practice finger before doing your nail application. You will also need acrylic brushes. To properly shape your nails, you will also need forms, which are essentially lined paper forms to place under your nail. The lines help you easily create nails of the same length. Tartofraises, whom we no longer need to introduce, has made an excellent tutorial on acrylic nail application, with the goal of repairing a single nail. You can also lengthen all your nails using the same technique. Tartofraises uses clear acrylic for a transparent finish, but you can also use white and pink acrylic for a French manicure effect.

Steps for acrylic nail application

  • Prepare your nails for nail application. You can follow the steps in the video How to prepare your nails before resin or UV gel application
  • Apply acrylic primer
  • Place the form under your natural nail, so that your nail covers part of the form. Bend the form so that it aligns with your nail and conforms to the natural curve of your nail.
  • Reapply primer, without letting it dry
  • Immediately apply a ball of acrylic (acrylic + monomer liquid) towards the middle of your nail and work it by stretching it onto the form and shaping it as desired
  • Apply a slightly larger ball of acrylic at the stress point of your nail (white area when you press on the nail)
  • Finally, apply a thin, slightly more liquid ball near the cuticles and stretch it out.
  • Let the resin dry slightly and pinch the sides of your nail with a pinching tool or your fingers.
  • Pinch the form to remove it
  • File with a coarse grit (80 or 100) to shape the nail, then with a finer grit file, and finally finish with a white block
  • Clean your nail with alcohol and apply a top coat
