Choosing the right electric nail file
Electric Nail File 101 Guide
Part 1 - Nail Files
Let's Start with the Basics: RPMs
It's not always easy to understand. The term RPM is often mentioned when talking about an electric nail file, but what does it mean? RPM stands for Rotations Per Minute. So, 20 RPM, also written as 20K, means 20,000 rotations per minute. You'll understand then that the more rotations per minute, the faster your file will spin when set to its full capacity.
How Do I Know What I Need?
It will depend on how often you do nail applications and whether it will be used for hands, feet, or both. If you use it occasionally, you can opt for a basic model up to 20K. If you plan to use your file every day or almost every day, choose one that is above 20-25K. Finally, for those who want to use it for feet, we recommend a robust file of 30K and above to remove calluses. You can obviously use this for hands as well, but at a lower speed.
Your Different Options
Now that you've determined your RPM needs, you'll have different options to consider. Some models will have a foot pedal to adjust the speed directly from your foot, while others will need to be adjusted on the unit itself. Some less expensive models offer a speed dimmer directly on the device's connector cable. For the handpiece, the ergonomics and weight will differ depending on the price of the file. A basic model file will often be heavier and less ergonomic, but this won't prevent you from working correctly! Then, if you usually travel to perform treatments, a portable model might be practical for you since it runs on rechargeable batteries—isn't that great? Otherwise, a choice of colors will be available for most models, for fans of pink as well as for those who prefer more classic options!
Finally, every electric nail file comes with a set of bits to get started, but what are they for? In the next article, we will present them according to their use. Stay tuned!
