Quels pinceaux choisir pour la pose d'ongles

Which brushes should you choose for nail application

The brush is an essential tool for nail application, but do you know how to choose the right brush?

Natural or synthetic bristles?

Natural bristles are generally more flexible and more resistant than synthetic bristles. For nail application, there are two types of natural bristle brushes: Kolinsky and Red Sable. These brushes are both made of sable hair, a type of weasel with reddish-brown fur. Red sable is more suitable for gel nail application, while Kolinsky is ideal for acrylic. Synthetic fibers are firmer and less elastic, but that doesn't mean they're bad. On the contrary, synthetic fibers, such as nylon, are perfect for working with UV gel and colored UV gel.

Brush shape

Square, oval, angled, liner, fan, the brush tip is also very important depending on your needs, as is the size of your brush.

  • The square and flat brush is perfect for nail construction and camouflage UV gel application.
  • The oval and flat brush is multi-functional; it allows you to build, fill, sculpt, and shape all types of gel.
  • The angled brush is used for finishing to create a French manicure, curves, and decorations.
  • The liner brush, this brush with a long, fine tip is used only for nail art and allows you to create very precise nail decorations.
  • The fan brush, also called a blush brush, is a very flared thin brush that is ideal for the delicate application of glitter and glitters.

There are several sizes of brushes, most often ranging from #2 to #12 for nail application and from 0.5 to 2.5 cm for nail art brushes. The larger your brush, the more area it will allow you to cover. The #12 is more for toes and the #2 for touch-ups or for the little finger. An assortment of sizes and shapes is therefore recommended to always have the right brush at hand.

What price for a brush?

Expect to pay between $4 and $7 for a liner brush and between $10 and $15 for a gel or acrylic brush. Consider brush kits, which reduce the price per unit and, more importantly, will provide you with everything you need to apply your nails properly. Nail brush kits are made up of different sizes and shapes, so you can test the brushes and see which type of brush you prefer to work with. Expect to pay about $20 for 3 brushes and $30 to $45 for more complete brush sets.
