How to remove acrylic nails

Acrylic nails create a stunning effect; they are long and strong, but when it comes time to remove them, some people don't know how. Indeed, acrylic cannot be removed with nail polish remover like regular nail polish, so you have to file the nail or dissolve it in acetone. However, excessive filing could damage the nail, and if you don't file enough, you risk having uneven acrylic patches on your nails, and pure acetone is too aggressive for nails. Here are 4 methods to remove acrylic from nails without damaging them.

Remove acrylic with a manual or electric file

Suzie from Nail Career Education explains step-by-step two techniques for removing acrylic without damaging your nails. The first uses manual nail files, and the second uses an electric nail file. Only use the electric file technique if you are proficient with it. Otherwise, I recommend removing the bulk with the electric file and finishing with a manual file to avoid damaging your nails. Don't forget that it takes 4 to 6 months for the nail plate to completely regrow, so it's worth spending an extra 5 minutes finishing with a hand file rather than waiting 6 months for your nails to regain their health. If in doubt, leave a very thin layer of acrylic; it won't be visible as it grows out.

Melt off the acrylic

Melissa from Easy Nails shows us two other methods for removing acrylic, again without damaging the nails. The first is to use pads soaked in an acetone-based solution like Dilue tout, which contains nourishing oils, or simply by soaking the nails in Dilue tout and then gently scraping with a wooden cuticle pusher. Acrylic doesn't dissolve as easily as gel polish, so arm yourself with patience or use a file to finish the job. Source: How to remove acrylic false nails
